Usually selenium is only imperfectly absorbed from plant-based foods. Here it is only present in small amounts, with the exception of nuts and mushrooms. Those who abstain from animal foods should take the trace element in the form of food supplements. The situation is better for meat eaters; chicken and pork, but also fish and eggs are important sources of selenium.
