Protein bars are an excellent way to get your protein in for the day. You can easily make them yourself with your favourite ingredients and they are a great change compared to having just a regular protein shake!
There are many recipes out there, but I am going to run you through my top 6. Hopefully you like them just as much as me.
Peanut butter cinnamon bars

Directions – Combine all the dry ingredients together in a bowl and mix. Do the same with all the wet ingredients, in a separate bowl. Place the wet ingredients in a microwave and microwave for 30 seconds. Now, mix the wet and dry ingredients together. Place the mixture into the fridge on a tray using wax paper for 20-30 minutes or until solid. Finally, carve out the size of the slice you want to snack on!

Peanut butter honey bars
Ingredients - Cooking oats 1 cup, ½ cup skimmed milk, ½ cup peanut butter, ½ cup almond butter, table spoon of honey, your choice of protein powder, 1 tablespoon of flaxseeds and sesame seeds.
Directions – Spread the oats onto a baking sheet and toast in the oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. In a saucepan, stir the milk, peanut butter, almond butter and honey together on a medium heat until smooth. Next, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the protein powder, seeds and toasted oats into the wet ingredients and then pour the mixture into a baking tray. Bake in the oven for roughly ten minutes and then once cool, place in the fridge until bars are solid before cutting.
Super simple oats and whey
Ingredients – 1 cup of oats, 3 scoops of your favourite whey protein, ½ to 1 cup of semi skimmed milk.
Directions – Blend the oats into a flour and then mix the protein powder into the flour. Add the milk slowly whilst stirring, aiming to create a thick batter. Transfer this thick batter into a baking tray and make sure it is compact. Refrigerate for roughly 30 minutes or until firm. Once firm, cut into bars!
Mint chocolate chip

Directions – Using a mixing bowl, mix the oats, cocoa powder, cereal, sweetener and protein powder. Microwave the Nutella and syrup until both are melted. Mix the liquid mixture in with the dry mixture and add the mint extract. Once cool, add the chocolate chips and mix further, until a thick batter is formed. Place the mixture into a baking tray and refrigerate overnight. Once solid, cut into bars.

Cashew coconut bars
Ingredients – 1 ½ cups of oats ground into a flour, ½ cup of oat bran , ¼ cup of cashew butter, ¼ cup of honey, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, handful of shredded coconut, ½ cup of cut cashews, ½ tablespoon of sea salt and 1 scoop of whey protein.

Add the dry mixture to the liquid mixture in the saucepan and mix well. Pour the mixture into a baking tray and refrigerate for 4 hours. Once all set, cut into bars.
Chocolate orange bars
Ingredients - 100g of oat flour, dash of milk, 50g shredded coconut, 50g marmalade, 50g dark chocolate and 100g whey protein powder.
Directions – Mix the oat flour, coconut, marmalade and whey in a bowl. Add the dash of milk and mix with your hands until the consistency is similar to bread dough. Shape the mixture into bars with your hands and place them on a plate covered in grease-proof paper. Once they are all shaped, heat the dark chocolate and pour over the bars, creating a coating. When all bars are coated, place in the freezer for roughly 30 minutes until the chocolate has set.
There you have it, my personal favourite protein bars that can be made from home.
I hope you enjoy them!
