BCAA’s Vs EAA’s – which one is right for you?
What are they? Whats the difference? What do they do for me? All the answers you need about BCAA's and EAA's are in this weeks blog
Should men and women train the same?
In most gyms men and women often occupy different areas of the gym, training differently. Women will often be smashing it on the treadmills and the men dominate the iron in the free weights area. But why is this?
Should men and women train the same? Should women be slamming down deadlifts and men be hitting the elliptical?
Fibre – What? Why? Where?
There are many different types of fibre found in varying sources. Dietary, Fructans, Pectins, soluble, insoluble; what does it all mean?! It is no surprise we all get confused between what and how much certain fibre's we can and can't have...
Is all protein powder created equally?
Concentrate, Hydrolysate, Isolate, Casein…chances are you have likely come across these words printed on most protein shakes when browsing the shelves. These words commonly follow the word ‘Whey’, which is a constituent protein made from the curd extracted when milk, cheese and other dairy products are made. It is no surprise therefore that whey is so popular; it’s a convenient source of protein, relatively easy to digest and boosts our overall protein content, leading to better muscle protein synthesis and recovery.
Does meal timing matter?
Have you ever heard the old adage “eating late at night makes you store more fat”? Perhaps you’ve been told that skipping breakfast is better for your metabolism? There is a reason why the likes of intermittent fasting is such a popular eating regime for those who want to lose weight or gain weight and do so without compromising their results in the gym. Film and broccoli nights are not a thing
Film and broccoli nights are not a thing. “Ooooo I’m really craving cabbage” is not a sentence heard on the regular. Swap in pizza and chocolate and we’re in more familiar territory, am I right!? Ever wondered about the science behind why we would always desire these tasty combinations of carbohydrate and fat as opposed to the veg? No? Well, here it is anyway.
Try this for better hammies!
Ah the hamstrings. The ‘leg bicep’. I love training them, but this isn’t a mutual feeling across the bodybuilding community. Many won’t see it as a necessary muscle to train, after all, it's not a mirror muscle is it? I’m pained to say this was also my way of thinking when I first started training. Leg day was all about the quads and making them grow, which is silly, as you are pretty much missing out on growing your legs an extra 50% if you only train the front. Thankfully, I realised this, and the goal for bigger legs started with training my hamstrings just as hard (if not harder) as I trained my quads. Low and behold I fell in love with training hamstrings and I now enjoy a hamstring workout more than I do a quad one.
What are the best fat loss ingredients?
We live in a world where everyone wants to see results now. This is especially true in the fitness industry. We all want to build muscle, but we expect to build our desired amount over 12 weeks. We all want to lose fat but expect to consistently lose 2-3lbs per week until we look good naked. In reality, that’s just not how it works. Building muscle takes years and fat loss is very rarely linear. Now I’m not saying you can’t improve in short periods of time, you can, it's probably just not going to be close to where you envisioned.
Importance of maintaining health during pregnancy
The pregnancy period is a crucial time for you and your baby to be. It is the time when a woman's body is changing completely. There is no more important time than now to eat healthily when our bodies create a little human inside.
